What: Character Archtype Thoughts
Who: Yuuki

So, this is one of my most complicated character concepts because the original one was named (and theoretically designed) after someone else. So to me, Rowan indicates a grumpy vain cat and not the delicate princess he actually turned into. I believe two factors went into this - the change in PB and my comfort level with Acheron. Which was pretty low going into it and started to build after his personality was set in stone.

PB-wise, the biggest influence came in through the fact Aiba (despite being the biggest pile of sunshine in the entire world) has the best bitchy model face and Kentaro's model face is all delicate and waif-like. So while both of them have a significant amount of time as being sweet and precious (Aiba is more in your face AAAAAAAA hi and Kentaro is bashful), their model faces ended up being the biggest influence on how they developed in the long run.

Yuuki developed into a cohesive archtype to build on ... crap, I forgot exactly when it happened but it was after Christmas somewhere. The core of his personality I'd build around is his lonliness, desire to connect with people, and his fear in doing so. The battle between staying safe and alone vs reaching out for that emotional connection he desperately wants is the core of his struggle and what makes Yuuki distinct of my characters. I've developed this three ways so far:

Rowan - He was the only one that wasn't designed specifically with this concept in mind, but his backstory fits perfectly. He was the ignored middle child of a large family and was the only child who didn't have a personality that demanded attention.

Yuuki - He was an only child to two very rich and incredibly distant parents. He got moved around a lot between Japan and the west and east coasts of the US, so he never had time to settle in and make long term connections. He wants to make them, but then he runs away from them because he has a lot of self value issues because (he thinks) his parents don't approve of him and so no one else should be able to.

Ryo - my current Rising Up boy. He moved ships often growing up with only his mother (that he's close to) as his single constant. So, similar to Yuuki, he's good at shallow connections but struggles with deeper ones, but he's about ten hundred times more innocent and gentle.

So far, he's been really fun to play because the internal conflict that drives him is intregal to his personality and gives me conflict to play with externally and internally.

Another common factor is that they all have a fake outer personality. Rowan's was gentle and waif-like, unintentional but effective at covering his lack of self value and the fact he makes assumptions against himself and he's always "right" because he's passive, doesn't take chances, and loses oppurtunities. Yuuki's is a cheerful demeanor to cover both the fact he's mildly evil and has a whole host of abandonment issues. Ryo's an enthusiastic puppy who plays at being dumber than he is to not face uncomfortable truths. There are a lot of them.
