Rowan is the Warrior of Light, the Champion of the Scions, a modern legendary figure that has stood up against the Garlean Empire, Savior of Ishgard, Savior of Doma, has slayed countless primals and self-styled gods of the lands, etc etc so on and so forth. Not many could stand up to the shadow of such a legend ... and Rowan is no exception to that, at first glance. She's a forest-raised Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te, a fact that's readily apparent to anyone familiar with them.

HISTORY
* This changed when she was eight years old and her mother did not come back from a hunt. Her brother, now sixteen, decided that they had been abandoned and took Iyoh under his paw. He renamed them - her to Rowan, him to Briar - to further disconnect from their mother, but kept them on the move the same way she did.
* A few years later, when she was about fifteen, he decided she was old enough to strike out her own and they were going to split apart. This is the real beginning of her figuring she was little more than a burden on people, because they kept leaving her behind.
* She never found out who her father was or if she had any aunts, uncles, cousins, etc, or where her mother had grown up. Without her family leaving her behind, she figured those were questions that were going to remain unanswered.
* Now free to do what she wanted, Rowan figured she was going to say fuck it and go to a city. She bought passage on a boat to Limsa Lominsa, deciding to do all the new things all at once because she'd never been on a boat bigger than a raft before either. Another first in Limsa Lominsa was sleeping under a roof and on a bed.
* She did try to be an Arcanist for a while, but was drawn back to the bow early on. An appreciation for song and story came later, but she fell hard into it once she found it. This deepened as she was more and more known in general, as she wanted to tell the stories of the people who she thought deserved more credit than her.

There's a Keeper of the Moon miqo'te child in Zhloe's orphanage that looks just like her, but with pale lilac eyes instead of grey. Rowan's been too afraid to talk to her to find out if she found a sister (and her mother is alive and did leave them behind, and then had and left behind another child) or a niece. The lilac eyes were both shared by them.
